When my little niece was born, I was chosen as her godmother. She definitely is a very special part of my life, so I knew for her first birthday, I wanted to give her and her family something special. I've seen people do really unique things with fingerprints, so I decided I wanted to make a wall art with her own fingerprint. I originally wanted to do this project immediately after she was born; however, I learned that newborn fingerprints are hardly visible and wayyyyy too small to be used- so I waited until she was just shy of a year to try again. Here's some of the handprints that I got.
Honestly, this was the hardest part of the project. Getting an almost one year hold to let me put her hand in ink, and then press it on a piece of paper- and repeat over and over, is nearly impossible. I ended up getting two really good partial prints of her pointer finger, and spliced them together myself on a photo editor. I then inverted the fingerprint and combined the two to create a heart.
I took the image to staples and enlarged it to the size I wanted (I believe this canvas is 2' x 3'). I then traced the fingerprint on to the canvas and added the words I wanted it to say.
I then began painting it the color I wanted (this matched her bedroom color)
And then it was finished!
